OCZ DDR3

OCZ is coming up with the DDR3 RAM. Besting its own recently introduced modules with its new 1800MHz PC3-14400 modules. Apparently the first modules of their kind to go into production, these will be available in both single 1GB modules and 2×1GB dual channel kits, with ‘em boasting a peak bandwidth of 14400MB (or 14.4GB) per second and latencies “comparable to the fastest offerings of DDR or DDR2.” Otherwise, you’ll get OCZ’s proprietary platinum-mirrored XTC (Xtreme Thermal Convection) heat spreader to keep the modules cool, along with a lifetime warranty for a little extra insurance.

CF - SATA Card on the horizon

August 8th, 2007 | by Arun Mani | Be first to Comment »

Looks like the CompactFlash Association is gearing up to create a CF card with a SATA interface. Reportedly, the CFA has assembled a working group to “develop a specification for a CompactFlash card with a Serial ATA interface,” as it looks to broaden the market appeal of CompactFlash and exceed the current 133MB/second interface data rate. We have no idea when these  devices are slated to go commercial, but we would recommend that you start saving right about now anyway especiall those of you with memory hungry DSLR’s.

Robotic Flying Insect from Harvard

A life-size, robotic fly has taken flight at Harvard University. The tiny robot’s movements are modeled on those of a real fly. While much work remains to be done on the mechanical insect, the researchers say that such small flying machines could one day be used as spies, or for detecting harmful chemicals.

  • Weight: 60 grams
  • Wingspan: 3 cm

Canon EOS 40D, finally real

July 18th, 2007 | by Arun Mani | 2 Comments »

It looks like the much rumoured and long-awaited Canon 40D DSLR camera, successor to the popular EOS 30D model, may finally be arriving. None other than the Camera & Imaging Products Association (CIPA) has spilled the beans by listing the Canon 40D on it’s PictBridge-certified product page, which was last updated yesterday. There’s obviously no specs or pictures yet. Will update soon on that. But definitely, a better 30D.

iPhone AT&T lock cracked! partiallly…

July 18th, 2007 | by Arun Mani | Be first to Comment »

Folks at iPhone Dev Wiki have been able to partially unlock the iPhone using a new application called iASign. It won’t fully unlock the iPhone for use with other companies, but the hack will allow you to use any existing Cingular/AT&T Pre-paid/MVNA SIM so you don’t have to get a two-year contract with AT&T. If you are interested you can help them at the #iPhone IRC channel

But eXpansys, UK quotes that the device will be sold Network Unlocked unlike the evil AT&T lock in the US. More details…

New iMac mockup by Arun Mani | New Tech Update

Multiple sources have said Apple’s highly anticipated iMac revision is expected in the first week of August. The revamped iMac will represent the first substantial upgrade to the system since it initially adopted Intel processors in January 2006, and will sport an entirely new brushed aluminum enclosure.

I have made a mockup of how the iMac 2007 might look like. Can’t wait for the surprise.
